New Artery of the City
Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman 6.4-kilometer Causeway Project was regarded as one of the most important infrastructural programs launched in the State of Bahrain within this decade. The Causeway was planned to link Muharraq to Manama, also as far as Saudi Arabia.
Being the most critical component of the project, the Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway Bridge stretching over an expanse of water called the Khawr Al Qulayah connected the peninsular of Hidd Drydock Highway and the mainland of Bahrain at the Mina Sulman port in Manama. The bridge was designed to carry dual, two to three-lane carriageways. The length of the bridge was 404 meters measuring between abutments.
Who dare to lift the Bridge?
The marine bridge was pre-assembled with all the structural steel works fabricated by Cleveland Bridge & Engineering in Dubai. The navigation span together with the temporary support steel structures weighed over 2500 tons, stretched 121 meters in span length, 40 meters in width and reached an arch height of 26 meters.
Brambles of U.K., specialists in moving oversized and ultra-heavy structures were assigned to transport the pre-assembled bridge on site. Professional and experienced as were Brambles, they would still need a behind-the-scenes lubrication expert.
The Reliable Partner – Omega
Brambles applied the “strand jacking” methodology using heavy-duty hydraulic jacks to lift the massive steel structure. The base of these jacks were mobilized by hydraulic sliding action on trolleys resting on top of tough Teflon pads. Such Teflon pads acted as the crucial stationery bases for moving the overlying hydraulic jacks.
There were a total of 50 hydraulic jacks, each offering a capacity of 50 tons to slide the pre-assembled bridge. The critical and underlying Teflon pads had to rely on a premium quality and dependable hydraulic oil. Excessive friction, abrasive action and load on the Teflon pads and even equipment breakdown would become immediate obstacles to the entire sliding action if the hydraulic motions were not effectively lubricated. Omega 606 Multi-Grade Hydraulic Oil was the only solution.
Omega 606 Multi-Grade Hydraulic Oil
Omega 606 is the super mineral based lubricant specially formulated to withstand the toughest conditions for extended periods up to ten years. It is the superior multi-grade lubrication for modern hydraulic systems commonly commanding a narrower tolerance. Omega 606 has a high shear stability, high viscosity index properties prevailing in both high and low temperatures, to ensure truly reliable and consistent performance.
Omega 606 contains built-in air and water-release agents to eliminate foaming and water emulsions. Its oxidation inhibitors protect against rust and corrosion while fighting sludge, varnish and gum build-up.
The special paraffinic mineral base oil and the unique “Megalite” supplement make Omega 606 a superior and unparalleled hydraulic oil.
